Which Youth Baseball Glove Should I Get?

What About Leather Gloves?
Many kids will eventually use a leather glove, and they’re great for durability and feel. But new leather gloves come extremely stiff—even the youth models that claim to be "80% broken in." In reality, out of the package your child won’t be able to squeeze them closed, which makes it hard to catch and frustrating to play.
If you already have a broken-in leather glove, amazing—go ahead and use it! It’s also worth checking out Play It Again Sports in Salt Lake City, where you can often find great deals on used, broken-in leather gloves.
If you still want to buy a new leather glove, just know that it will take hours of break-in time, with parental help. This might include applying glove oil, steaming, warming, or even pounding with a mallet. If you’re up for that, great! If not—play it again sports or synthetic is the way to go for now.
